Junior Varsity
Milford 43 | Lakeland 0

On a beautiful night for football, the Junior Varsity football team ended their season with a 43 – 0 victory over cross-town rival Lakeland. The win secured the teams’ goal of a winning season.
Following their trend of quick starts, the defense came out and caused a turnover on the first series of the game. The fumble recovery set up the first scoring drive that was capped off by a Robert Ritchie touchdown run. The two point conversion run by Alex Larson made the score 8 – 0 Milford. Another solid defensive stand, gave the offense the ball back. A combination of passes to Zach Huff, Davey Sharpe, and hard running by Danny Wallace led to another Ritchie touchdown. The two point conversion run by Ritchie made the core 16 – 0.
A second Lakeland turnover gave the Mavericks great field position in the second quarter. The offense did not waste the opportunity as Larson hooked up with Alex Tollis for a 20 yard touchdown pass. With the score 22 – 0, the defense continued to hit hard as John Ernst and Kyle Seymour led the way to another defensive stop. The offense continued to roll as Wallace capped a quick drive with an 18 yard touchdown run. The extra point was good and the Mavericks went to the half with a 29 – 0 lead.
The second half was much of the same as Jon May and Blake Yovich both scored touchdowns to make the final score 43 – 0.
Credit goes to Chris Micoff, Nathan Douglas, Nathan Hiney, Korey Clarke, Zach Morgan, Ryan Thome, Noah Hosking and Eric Bourgioues as the offensive and defensive lines were dominant all night long.
The JV team looks forward to helping the varsity team as they pursue a playoff run and cannot wait for the chance to get into the weight room and start working for their turn on Friday Nights! |

Junior Varsity
Milford 28 | Pinckney 24

After a rough start on Thursday night, the Junior Varsity was able to come back to beat Pinckney 28 – 24 on a 1 yard run by Alex Larson with 14 seconds remaining in the game.
In a real tale of two halves, the Pirates of Pinckney stormed out to an 18 – 0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Mavericks were able to respond late in the first half with a scoring drive that ended in a touchdown run by Robert Ritchie. The two point conversion pass to Justin Klank was good, leaving the halftime score 18 – 8.
After receiving the kickoff to start the second half, Milford marched down the field before ultimately turning the ball over on downs inside the Pinckney 10 yard line. Another Pinckney touchdown made the score 24 – 8. Milford was able to answer quickly when Zach Huff out jumped a Pinckney defender to haul in a 65 yard touchdown pass. A two point conversion run by Larson left the score at 24 – 16.
Looking to keep the momentum, the Mavericks elected to onside kick and were successful when Marc Schwartz recovered a perfectly executed Blake Yovich kick. After a couple big pass plays, the Mavericks finally capped the scoring drive when Alex Tollis broke the pane of the goalline to make the score 24 – 22. An incomplete two point conversion pass set up the Mavericks defense with a “must get a stop” situation.
The defense responded and stuffed the Pirates on three straight plays to force a punt. Starting their final drive with just over 6 minutes to play, the Mavericks methodically worked the ball down field behind a good mix of runs and passes. The win improves the team’s record to 4 wins and 3 losses. The team will look to secure a winning season at next week’s cross-over game against a north division opponent. |

Junior Varsity
Howell 21 | Milford 13
Continuing their strong efforts on the road, the junior varsity Mavericks traveled to Howell and played one of their better games of the year. While the result was ultimately not a win, the team fought hard from start to finish and left everything they had on the field.
The game started out good with Alex Larson scampering 65 yards for an early touchdown to give Milford a 6 – 0 lead. After missing the PAT, the Mavericks defense allowed a scoring drive to make the score 7 – 6. After trading possessions, the offense found success with throwing the ball and moved down the field with ease. The drive ended on a tremendous tip and catch by Zach Huff. The PAT was good, making the score 13 – 7.
Howell again drove the ball down the field, only to be stopped on fourth down by a swarming Maverick defense. The stop was led by inspired play from Noah Hosking and Kyle Seymour.
After kicking off to start the second half, the Mavericks defense came up with a big play as Jon May intercepted a Highlander pass. Unfortunately, the offense couldn’t take advantage as the next play was a fumble. Howell took advantage and scored on the short field to make the score 14 – 13.
The rest of the game was a back and forth affair, with both defenses making crucial stops when needed. Howell finally put the game away when they scored with just under a minute remaining to make the final score 21 -13. Anthony Dawson helped lead the way defensively with 2 interceptions. Milford will look to right the “ship” as they play host to the Pinckney Pirates next Thursday. |

Junior Varsity
Milford 18 | Brighton 7
After a disappointing result the previous week and a sluggish first half this week, the junior varsity finally snapped out of their offensive funk and came from behind to secure a win. The game started out slow as both teams traded possessions. The Mavericks hit a couple big plays to get deep into Brighton territory but turned the ball over on downs with 4 minutes to go in the first half. The Bulldogs took the ensuing possession the length of the field and scored to take a 7 – 0 lead into the half.
The second half started out much like the first, as both teams traded possessions with out scoring any points. Milford found some momentum late in the 3rd quarter, only to see another drive stall in the redzone on a turnover. Thanks to a quick defensive stop, the Mavericks got the ball back and were able to find get on the board when Alex Larson scampered 55 yards for a touchdown. A missed extra point left the score 7 – 6 in favor of the Bulldogs.
After another defensive stand, Milford took the ball and marched down the field behind the hard running of Danny Wallace. Wallace capped off an impressive scoring drive to make the game 12 – 7. A failed two pint conversion play gave the Bulldogs hope of a comeback with just over 4 minutes remaining. However, any hope of a win was squashed when Robert Ritchie intercepted a Brighton pass around midfield and returned it all the way to give the Mavericks an 18 – 7 victory. The junior varsity record stands at 3 – 2 as they travel to Howell next Thursday.

Junior Varsity
Hartland 17 | Milford 0
Coming off a big win at Grand Blanc, the Junior Varsity Mavericks were hoping to avenge a loss from the previous year when Hartland visited Milford on Thursday Night. Unfortunately, the team was unable to establish any momentum as Hartland controlled the game on their way to a 17 – 0 victory.
The game started out poorly as a fumbled opening kick off left Hartland with a short field to go for their opening touchdown. After driving deep into Hartland territory on their next drive, the Mavericks turned the ball over on an interception. The rest of the first half was played around mid field, until Milford put together a string of plays to move inside Hartland’s 20 yard line. Again the Mavericks were unable to convert as a fumble at the 5 yard line stalled their drive. Hartland added a fieldgoal at the end of the half to make the score 10 – 0.
After trading a few possessions in the second half, the Mavericks stalled one more time in Hartland territory, with a 4 and 12 play ending in an interception. Hartland capped the scoring on their next drive to make the final 17 – 0. The junior varsity will look to regroup and get a win next week when Brighton visits Milford.

Junior Varsity
Milford 34 | Grand Blanc 28
After a tough loss in week 2, the junior varsity came responded with a tremendous effort in their 34 – 28 last second victory at Grand Blanc. Receiving the ball with just over 3 minutes to play in a tie game, the Mavericks drove 70 yards and scored on a Danny Wallace 2 yard plunge with 20 seconds remaining. The score was Wallace’s 4th rushing touchdown of the game as he consistently pounded out tough yards against a physical Bobcat defense. Also scoring for the Mavericks was Robert Ritchie.
The Mavericks continued their trend of getting off to a fast start as they took a 14 – 0 lead half through the first quarter. The lead would slowly slip away as Grand Blanc was able to tie the game at 21 – 21 late in the first half. In one of the more impressive drives of the past few JV seasons, the Mavericks took the opening possession of the second half 75 yards in just over 10 minutes to re-establish a lead of 28 – 21. After trading possessions, the Bobcats tied the game with just over three minutes remaining to set up the last drive heroics.
Alex Larson continued to make plays with an interception, long punt return and several key decisions on offense that kept drives alive. Also, the starting offensive line of Chris Micoff, Kyle Seymour, Nathan Douglas, John Ernst, Nathan Hiney and Justin Klank deserve credit for helping the team dominate with the running game.
